Washington girls fall at Mt. Pleasant
MT. PLEASANT – The Washington High School girls’ golf team competed in a dual with their Southeast Conference opponent the Mt. Pleasant Panthers last night.
The Panthers prevailed over the Demons after all the rounds had been played, the final tally being Mt. Pleasant 187, Washington 202.
Washington junior Sarah Waite was the meet medalist with her nine-hole score of 44.
Senior Megan Buitendorp finished at 51. Sophomore Brenna Weidman set a new personal low with a 53. Senior Maddie Hora and sophomore Deanna Peiffer both shot a 54. Brenna Burlingame finished the Demon scoring with her 58.
“There were a few sprinkles last night but overall the weather wasn’t a factor. Sarah [Waite] had a very fine round as did Brenna [Weidman]. This meet was a good yardstick for us. Mt. Pleasant was one of the best teams in the state last season and they have a lot of those girls back out this year. We showed that we have the potential to compete when we are hitting the ball well and on top of our game. We play well when we are at home but have struggled on the road so far this season. We will work on taking the information that we are better at processing when we’re at home and transferring that to other courses in away meets,” Washington head coach Leonard Kull said.
Washington’s girls will have another chance to put their road skills to the test today in a triangular at Pella with Ottumwa and the host school.
