FAIRFIELD – The Washington High School girls’ soccer team lost its Southeast Conference season opener to the Trojans by a score of 8 – 0 on Thursday, April 17.
After a tight first half which ended in a 1 – 0 Fairfield advantage, that goal being scored on a penalty shot, the Demons’ current lack of depth started to show.
“We have three healthy girls. The whole second half, our girls were getting beat up; we had two girls left on the bench. We were forced to play our girls out of their normal positions the entire second half. We just could never get it going. All the girls played strong the whole game despite the injuries. I hope to have everyone healthy for the upcoming week,” Washington head coach Kyle Collins explained.
The Trojans took advantage of Washington’s plight, adding on seven more goals in the final 40 minutes of play.
Stephanie Evans started the game in goal and played well, allowing just the one goal past her.
The Demons are now 2 – 3 overall and 0 – 1 in conference matches. Washington will try to even up its record at home against SEC foe Keokuk on Tuesday, April 22.
