Washington girls win Eddyville Relays

EDDYVILLE – The Washington High School girls’ track and field team won the Eddyville Relays last night, finishing with 127 team points.
The list of first-place finishes that helped the Demons garner the victory is extensive. It begins with the 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle relay team (Carolan Hoffman, Jessie Buchholz, Emma Wood and Makenzie Knutson), who won with a time of 1 minute, 14.7 seconds.
Washington added another top time in the 4x200-meter relay. The Demons (Kelly Wheeler, Grace Redlinger, Stephanie Fishback and Macy Marek) finished in 1:51.48.
Fishback got her own first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.83. Marek did it again in the 100-meter dash, placing first in 12.99.
The sprint medley relay squad (Wheeler, Fishback, Marek and Morgan Kimball) had a first-place time of 1:56.39. Washington claimed two other first-place finishes in relays.
The 4x200-meter unit (Dema Giardino, Redlinger, Fishback and Marek) had a time of 52.97 and the the 4x400-meter team (Buchholz, Redlinger, Knutson and Kimball) had a time of 4:34.17.
There were two second-place performances for Washington as well. The distance medley squad (Kimball, Isabella Giardino, Addison Gaal and Mariah Howard) finished second in 4:51.56. Buchholz took second in the 400-meter hurdles in 66.24.
Amber Salow’s leap of 14 feet, ½ inch starts out the list of third-place finishes for the Demons. Emme Keith followed that up with a third-place time of 11:41.67 in the 3,000-meter run. The 4x800-meter relay unit (Stephanie Loy, Lexi Redlinger, Jasmine Mares and Brynna DeLong) placed third in 11:28.76.
Dylann Schluetter’s 96-4 discus throw placed her fourth. Keith had a fourth-place time of 5:42.25 in the 1,500-meter run.
Makenzi Marek placed fifth in the long jump at 13-7. Loy’s time of 2:46.33 in the 800-meter run placed her fifth.
The Demons will be in action again on Tuesday, April 22 at Mt. Pleasant. Following are the rest of the results listed by event.
Shot put – McKayla Miller, 31 feet. MaKenna Goodwin, 27-3.
Discus – Emma Stout, 75- 5 ½.
100-meter hurdles – Wood, 18.27. Hoffman, 18.47.
800-meter run – Alexis Turner, 2:57.28.
200-meter dash – D. Giardino, 30.54.
400-meter hurdles – Wood, 1:23.6. Hoffman, 1:30.22.
1,500-meter run – Howard, 5:49.12.
3,000-meter run – Aubrey Zimmer, 14:30.
