Washington JV girls defeat rival Mt. Pleasant
MT. PLEASANT — The Washington junior varsity girls’ basketball team built an 11-point halftime lead at Mt. Pleasant on Friday and then held off the rival Panthers in the second half for a 46-34 win.
“Overall, it was probably our best game of the year,” Washington head coach Jay Zieglowsky said. “We had two juniors who played two quarters apiece, and they played in the first half. We were up by 11 points at halftime and won by 12, so that was nice to see those younger girls hold their own in the second half.”
Junior Addie Shive scored 10 points in two quarters to lead the Demons (5-6), and sophomore Dylann Schluetter added nine points, six rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Elle Van Gundy contributed eight points, four rebounds and two steals, and freshman Amber Salow had seven points and two thefts. Sophomore Sydney Hoffman had three points to go with 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals, and sophomore Rachael Hall also scored three points. Junior Dema Giardino had two points, two assists and two steals in the contest, and sophomore Macy Marek also scored two points. Sophomore Makenna Goodwin chipped in one point, and sophomore Jordan Stout grabbed three rebounds.
“It’s always good to beat Mt. Pleasant,” Zieglowsky said. “That’s our big rival.”
