Washington JV girls open the season with a win
EDDYVILLE — Washington held a slim two-point advantage at halftime of Monday’s junior varsity girls’ basketball game at Eddyville-Blakesburg, but the Demons pulled away in the second half to win their season opener 37-20.
“It was the first game, so it was jittery,” Washington head coach Jay Zieglowsky said. “We put on a trapping press in the third quarter, and it was very effective.”
Junior Dema Giardino and sophomore Macy Marek scored eight points apiece to lead the Demons (1-0), and Giardino also had a team-high seven steals. Sophomore Dylann Schluetter added six points and five rebounds, and sophomore Sydney Hoffman had five points. Junior Grace Redlinger and sophomore Rachael Hall chipped in four points apiece, and junior Addie Shive had two points. Sophomore Makenna Goodwin pulled down four rebounds, and Redlinger had three.
Zieglowsky was pleased to open the season with a victory.
“It’s always fun to get the first one under your belt,” he said. “We’ve got some things to work on, but I thought we played pretty well.”
