Feb 08, 2013

FORT MADISON — Washington trailed Fort Madison by two points at halftime of Friday’s junior varsity girls’ basketball game, but the Demons rallied in the second half for a 43-31 victory.

“I’m getting really good at halftime speeches, I guess,” Washington head coach Jay Zieglowsky said. “I was not very happy. We had another heart-to-heart at halftime, and again they responded.”

After Zieglowsky’s halftime speech, the Demons (11-9) out-scored the Bloodhounds 26-12 the rest of the way.

Sophomores Sydney Hoffman and Dylann Schluetter, along with freshman Amber Salow, scored eight points apiece to lead Washington. Hoffman also pulled down seven rebounds, and Salow had four rebounds and two steals. Schluetter also had a pair of thefts in the game. Sophomore Elle Van Gundy added five points, four rebounds and three steals, and freshman Addie Pacha had four points. Sophomore Rachael Hall contributed three points and two steals, and sophomore Jordan Stout had two points to go with six rebounds and two steals. Junior Dema Giardino chipped in two points.
