Washington man plans mission trip to New Zealand
Chris Jewell will leave on a six-month mission trip on Feb. 18, through Youth With a Mission (YWAM).
Jewell, 20, is the son of Mike and Debbie from Washington.
Chris will spend the first three months in Paparoa, New Zealand, listening to lectures about spreading God’s word.
“It’s a school that is solely focused on digging deeper into the Bible and understanding who God is,” Chris said.
The second phase of his mission trip Chris will travel to another country to share God’s word with people.
“Getting to places that aren’t, in a sense, safe for people of the Christian faith is a possible challenge,” Chris said.
A fundraiser for Chris’s trip will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington. The family will be performing in a concert and a free-will donation will be taken for his trip.
“I hope people will come to help raise awareness about the missionary work that I’m going to do to spread the Gospel and to enjoy the music and entertainment,” Chris said.
Chris is thankful for any continuing support he receives throughout his mission trip and the support the community has already shown him.
“It’s important that I obtain support, whether that’s through prayer or finances,” he said. “Prayer is highly needed so I can be spiritually and physically stable when doing this.”
