Washington seventh-graders sweep Fairfield
The Washington seventh-grade boys’ basketball team opened its season by winning three games over visiting Fairfield on Wednesday.
The Demon A team edged the Trojans 32-30. Dalton Myers led Washington with 16 points and nine rebounds. Blake Hartzler added eight points, and Jaivonn Willis had four points to go with five rebounds. Zeb Roos had two points and three rebounds, and Jack Redlinger also had two points. Mitchell Huisenga and Kyle Fishback both pulled down a rebound.
The Washington B team defeated Fairfield 20-12. Cale Hobsheidt scored six points to lead the Demons, while Jameson Bell and Landon Hinkley added four apiece. Mason Letts, Brennan Horak and Thomas Zimmer chipped in two points apiece, and Zimmer grabbed three rebounds. Eric Sanchez pulled down a team-high four rebounds, while Hinkley and Jacob Van Osdol had two apiece.
The Demon C team blanked the Trojans 18-0. Letts scored eight points to lead Washington, and Sanchez added six. Zimmer and Mario Tapia chipped in two points apiece. Sanchez and Zimmer both grabbed three rebounds, and Letts had two.
Washington head coach Mark Berhow was pleased with how his Demons played in the season-opener.
“We did a lot of things well for our first game,” he said. “They learned how important it is to block out on defense. They gave a good effort in all three games.”
The Demon seventh-grade boys’ basketball team returns to action tomorrow night when it travels to Edward Stone in Burlington.
