Washington seventh-graders win one of three against Ottumwa
The Washington seventh-grade boys’ basketball team won the A game, but lost the B and C games to visiting Ottumwa on Tuesday night at Washington High School.
The Demon A team trailed the Bulldogs 15-10 at halftime, but rallied to win 39-23.
“We started very sluggish and were behind at the half, but we came back in the second half and played better offense, hustled after the ball and guarded much better,” Washington head coach Mark Berhow said.
Jack Redlinger scored 11 points to lead Washington (5-2), and Jaivonn Willis added 10 points and eight rebounds. Dalton Meyers had six points and four rebounds in the game, and Zeb Roos also scored six points. Kyle Fishback, Mitchell Huisenga and Cale Hobscheidt chipped in two points apiece. Huisenga grabbed four rebounds in the contest. Redlinger had three rebounds, and Fishback had two. Blake Hartzler and Jacob Van Osdol both grabbed a rebound.
Ottumwa edged the Washington B team 19-18.
“It was a close game all the way to the end,” Berhow said. “We played hard, but missed too many close shots.”
Hobschieidt scored five points to lead the Demons (4-3), and he also grabbed four rebounds. Mason Letts had four points and three boards in the contest, and Thomas Zimmer had three points to go with a team-high five rebounds. Van Osdol, Jameson Bell and Landon Hinkley each chipped in two points. Bell, Van Osdol and Brennan Horak each grabbed a pair of rebounds.
The Washington C team also lost a one-point game, falling to Ottumwa 13-12.
Eric Sanchez scored eight of Washington’s 12 points, and he also grabbed four rebounds. Letts added four points and three rebounds. John Lisauskas grabbed a team-high five rebounds for the Demons (5-2), while Zimmer and Caleb Woodson had two apiece. Mario Tapia and Sam Donnolly each pulled in a rebound.
The Washington seventh-grade boys’ basketball team travels to Keokuk today. The A game will tip off at 4:30 p.m.
