Washington seventh-graders win three games over Aldo Leopold
The Washington seventh-grade boys’ basketball team won three games over visiting Aldo Leopold on Monday night.
The Demon A team blew out the Wolves 39-4. Blake Hartzler scored 11 points to lead Washington (2-1), while Jaivonn Willis and Jack Redlinger added eight points apiece. Zeb Roos and Dalton Meyers both contributed four points, while Kyle Fishback and Jacob Van Osdol both chipped in two points. Willis pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, and Fishback had five. Mitchell Huisenga grabbed four rebounds, and Meyers had three. Roos, Hartzler, Redlinger and Van Osdol each had a pair of boards.
“We played very well as a team,” Washington coach Mark Berhow said. “We did a much better job of blocking out and playing defense. The scoring was very balanced, which is a good sign for a team.”
The Washington B team won a low-scoring contest 12-6. Cale Hobscheidt and Thomas Zimmer scored five points apiece to lead the Demons (3-0), and Landon Hinkley chipped in two points. Mason Letts pulled down a team-high four rebounds, and Hobscheidt grabbed three boards. Eric Sanchez had two rebounds, and Jameson Bell had one.
“We did a better job of running our offense and looking for the open player,” Berhow said. “We hustled for loose balls and defended well.”
The Washington C team defeated Aldo Leopold 18-12. Letts scored six points to lead the Demons (2-1), with Zimmer and Mario Tapia adding four points apiece. Sanchez and John Lisauskas both chipped in two points. Sanchez grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Tapia and Zimmer both pulled down four boards, and Letts had three. Sam Donnolly grabbed a pair of rebounds, while Lisauskas and Adrian Venegas both had one.
“We are improving in our offense and understanding better how to guard on defense,” Berhow said.
The Washington seventh-grade boys’ basketball team returns to the court this afternoon when the Demons host Keokuk at 4:30 p.m.
