Washington seventh-graders win two of three in season finale
The Washington seventh-grade girls’ basketball team lost a heartbreaker to visiting Mt. Pleasant in the A game on Thursday night, but the Demons came back to win the B and C games.
The Demons and Panthers went into the fourth quarter of the A game tied at 11, but Mt. Pleasant pulled out a 17-15 win. Morgan Brinning had five points, five rebounds and five steals to lead Washington, which finished its season with a record of 6-4. Sarah Nacos added four points, five steals and a rebound. Brooke Stout had two points to go with six rebounds and two steals, and Megan Mitchell had two points, four boards and three thefts. Megan Strabala chipped in two points, three steals and two rebounds.
The Demon B team led 8-0 at halftime and went on to defeat Mt. Pleasant 14-6. Jessica Hora and Makenna Rich scored four points apiece to lead Washington, which finished its season with a record of 2-6-1. Hora also had five steals and three rebounds in the game, and Rich had two boards and two thefts. Michaela Hoffman and Kristen Twinam both had two points, two rebounds and two steals in the contest, and Reagan Caffery chipped in two points and a rebound. Baylee Stalder contributed three rebounds and two steals. Addison McGuire, Mackenzie Beam and Liliana Torres each had a steal, while Emily Collier, Erin Mills and Allison Vogel each grabbed a rebound.
The Demon C team jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one quarter of play and went on to defeat the Panthers 10-4. Beam had six points, two steals and a rebound to lead Washington, which finished its season with a record of 2-4. Mills added two points, four rebounds and three steals, and Alexis Edwards had two points, one rebound and one steal. Collier had four steals and a rebound in the game, and McGuire had three steals and two rebounds. Keira Gould contributed two steals and a rebound, and Shaley Andrew had a steal and a rebound. Savannah White pulled down a pair of rebounds in the contest.
