Washington snaps its 18-match losing streak
FAIRFIELD — The Washington boys’ soccer team snapped the program’s 18-match losing streak with a 3-2 win at Fairfield Maharishi last Friday. It was the Demons’ first win since May 9, 2011.
“It certainly wasn’t a blowout, but it was a win nonetheless,” Washington head coach Steven Caulk said. “It was exciting to get our first win.”
Playing what Caulk called an “unusual game” on a short field, Washington juniors Mason Quigley and Chris Avila scored first-half goals as the Demons took a 2-0 halftime lead. Freshman Christian Mejia added a goal for Washington (1-5) in the second half.
“I think we could have played stronger defense, but we won, so I was happy with that,” Caulk said. “It was our first win in years. It’s hard to complain too much about that.”
