Jan 23, 2014

The Washington Visitors and Tourism Committee met Monday, Jan. 13, at the Washington County Extension office. Nine members were present.

Michelle Redlinger and Dani Kane reported on the progress of the Washington 175th Anniversary Committee. An announcement is expected soon as to what band will perform in concert. Plans are for a Bill Riley Talent show to be held. Planners will work with other area Bill Riley Talent shows to promote each event.

Plans are under way for the Visitors and Tourism group to have a food stand at a local dance symposium as a fundraiser and courtesy for dancers, their families, and guests.

The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum in West Branch will exhibit art works and artifacts of Jay N. “Ding” Darling, master cartoonist and conservationist. The grand opening of the exhibit will be Jan. 25. Nancy Adrian shared the Brighton Chamber’s interest in renaming a portion of highway the Jay N. “Ding” Darling Memorial Highway as a tribute to the Iowa Conservation legend.

The Washington Visitors and Tourism group will meet again on Feb. 10 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Washington County Extension office. For more information on being a part of this group contact, Heather Schultz at 319-653-6621.
