Water Sharks win 29 races in Muscatine
MUSCATINE — The Washington Community Y Water Sharks swim team won 29 races at a meet in Muscatine on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Megan Buitendorp won three races in the girls’ 15-21 age group, taking first place in the 50 free (28.96), 200 free (2:18.12) and the 100 back (1:18.26). She was also a member of two winning relay races. The team of Emily Adam, Tara Ryan, Lyndsay Adrian and Buitendorp won the 200 free relay in the girls’ 15-21 division in 2:02.14, and the quartet of Adrian, Adam, Buitendorp and Meredith Lumberg won the 200 medley relay in 2:17.34.
Adam also won three individual races on the day. She took first place in the 100 butterfly (1:15.17) and the 200 breaststroke (2:52.54) in the girls’ 12-21 division, and she also won the 100 breaststroke in the 15-21 age group in 1:18.97.
Adrian won the 100 free in the girls’ 15-21 age group in 1:05.57.
Alijah Beatty won two individual races and was a member of a winning relay. She won the 100 free in the girls’ 13-14 division in 1:03.86, and she won the 400 individual medley in the 12-21 age group in 5:58.69. She was also a member of the 13-14 200 free relay team, which also included Tattum Brown, Megan Arps and Sarah Miles, that took first place in 2:16.61. Arps also won the 200 free in the girls’ 13-14 division in 2:38.37.
Carmen Sieren won a pair of races in the girls’ 8-and-under division, taking first place in the 50 free (47.79) and the 50 back (55.50). Lupita Delarosa won the 50 free in the 9-10 age group in 34.76 seconds.
Noah Bruns won three individual races and was a member of two winning relay teams for the Water Shark boys. He won the 100 free (58.90) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.45) in the 13-14 age group, and he also took first place in the 400 individual medley in the 12-21 division in 5:45.39. He led off for the winning 200 medley relay team in the 13-14 age group, which also included Owen Horak, Ben Berhow and Victor Miller and won in 2:11.59. He anchored the same quartet to victory in the 200 free relay in 2:00.04.
Reece Mayer won three individual races in the boys’ 9-10 age group, taking first place in the 50 free (34.29), the 100 free (1:19.18) and the 50 butterfly (42.52). Quinn Wubbena won the 100 individual medley in the 9-10 division in 1:37.48.
Hayden Westphal won a pair of races in the boys’ 11-12 age group, taking first place in both the 50 breaststroke (42.99) and the 100 breaststroke (1:35.54). T.J. Durst won the 100 free in the 11-12 division in 1:25.59. Brennan Westphal won the 50 breast in the boys’ 8-and-under division in 1:07.68.
