Water Sharks win nine races in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD — The Washington Community Y Water Sharks swim team competed at a meet at the Fairfield Rec Center on Saturday, winning nine races on the day.

Fourteen-year-old Noah Bruns had the best day of any Water Shark, as he won three individual races and was a member of two winning relays. Bruns won the 100 free (59.69 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.58) in the boys’ 13-14 age group, and he won the 200 individual medley (2:31.70) in the 12-and-over division. The team of Adam Todd, Ben Berhow, Bruns and Owen Horak won the 13-14 200 medley relay in 2:15.26, and the same quartet won the 200 free relay in 2:05.79. Berhow also took third place in the 50 free in 28.43 seconds.

Drew Blauvelt won the 50 backstroke in the boys’ 9-10 age group in 45.15 seconds. He was also a member of the 200 free relay team, which also included Jacob Miller, Quinn Wubbena and Reece Mayer, that took second place in 2:33.04.

Miller took second place in the 50 butterfly in the boys’ 9-10 age group in 51.86 seconds, and teammate Justin Simmering finished third in the event in 52.40 seconds. Wubbena finished third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:50.54.

Michael Kimball took second place in both the 100 individual medley (1:26.61) and the 100 breaststroke (1:35.45) in the boys’ 11-12 age group, and he finished third in the 100 butterfly (1:30.28) in the 12-and-over division. He was also a member of a pair of relays that finished in the top three. The 11-12 200 medley relay team of Chandler Mullens, Zachariah Parsons, Kimball and T.J. Durst finished second in 3:00.29, and the 200 free relay team of Durst, Parsons, Mitchell Driscoll and Kimball took third in 2:43.98.

Mullens took second place in the 50 backstroke in the boys’ 11-12 age group, touching the wall in 47.31 seconds. Driscoll finished third in both the 50 free (35.81) and the 100 free (1:29.58).

Washington’s 8-and-under 100 medley relay team of Cale Hoyle, Teague Mayer, A.J. Staley and Will Gilchrist-Brock took third place in 2:53.83.

Sixteen-year-old Megan Buitendorp won a pair of races for the Water Shark girls. She won the 100 backstroke in the 15-18 age group in 1:08.09, and took first place in the 200 backstroke in the 12-and-over division in 2:27.26. She also finished second in the 100 butterfly in the 12-and-over division in 1:11.54 and was a member of a pair of second-place relay teams. The 200 medley relay team of Buitendorp, Emily Adam, Lyndsay Adrian and Alexis Rodgers was runner-up in the 15-18 age group in 2:14.76, and same quartet took second place in the 12-and-over 200 free relay in 1:58.11.

Adam took second place in the 200 free in the 15-18 age group in 2:25.11, and she was second in the 100 breaststroke in the 12-and-over division in 1:19.92. She also took third place in the 50 free in the 15-18 age group in 29.19 seconds. Adrian finished second in the 100 free (1:05.61) and third in the 200 free (2:30.77) in the 15-18 age group, while Rodgers placed second in the 200 free in the 13-14 division in 2:29.32.

Kayla Andrew won the 50 butterfly in the 11-12 age group in 32.73 seconds, and she also took second place in the 100 individual medley (1:17.40) and the 100 breaststroke (1:24.81). Teammate Haylee Wilson finished just behind Andrew in the 100 breaststroke, taking third in 1:26.94. Wilson also took second place in the 50 breaststroke in 38.66 seconds. Peyton Read took second place in both the 50 butterfly (36.25) and the 100 free (1:08.09) in the 11-12 age group, and Audrey Wubbena finished third in the 100 backstroke in 1:22.79. The quartet of Wubbena, Wilson, Andrew and Read took third place in the 200 medley relay in 2:17.76.

Macy Driscoll took third place in both the 50 backstroke (43.78) and the 100 breaststroke (2:01.23) in the 9-10 age group, and teammate Lupita Delarosa finished third in the 50 free in 34.81 seconds. Kyleigh Dolan took second place in the 8-and-under 100 individual medley in 2:12.55.

The 200 free relay team of Baylee Stalder, Avery Blauvelt, Megan Arps and Tattum Brown took third place in the 13-14 age group in 2:27.07.

The Washington Community Y Water Sharks swim team will travel to a meet at the Muscatine Y on Saturday.
