Weekend softball roundup: Huskies maintain No. 1 spot
The Highland Huskies softball team improved their record to 19-1 on Friday with a win over Waterloo East at Iowa City High.
The Huskies, ranked No. 1 in 2A, picked up the 6-2 win behind pitcher Katie Springer who gave up six hits and two walks, while striking out six batters in the contest.
At the plate, Morgan Craig led the way going 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, as Highland also got RBIs from Seaira Drish and Jordan Rath.
As a team, Highland had 13 hits, and only struck out twice.
Highland’s next game is at Lone Tree, whom they beat 12-0 in three innings last week.
Danville jumped to an early lead against the Iowa Mennonite softball team on Friday, putting up eight runs in the first inning.
IMS was able to put a couple of runs across in the first and second innings, but another nine runs by Danville in the second inning were too much to overcome, as Iowa Mennonite fell 17-3 in three innings.
IMS will travel to Wapello for its next game on Monday night at 5:30 p.m.
