WAVERLY — Drew Yoder of Wellman is a senior designated hitter for the Wartburg College baseball team, which opened its season on Sunday with a 9-7 victory over Howard Payne University in Tuscon, Ariz.

Yoder, a two-time All-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference designated hitter, is returning from an injury that limited his playing time to just 14 games last season. He hit .250 with one home run and seven RBIs in 2012, but is a career .333 hitter with six homers and 74 RBIs.

Wartburg, which finished third in the Iowa Conference last season, returns 10 letter winners and seven all-conference players and is the coaches’ pick to win the 2013 IIAC crown.
