West Chester UMW

Apr 16, 2013

The West Chester United Methodist Women met at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington at 12:30 p.m. April 10, 2013. Twelve members and two guests, Velma Cortum and Nancy Lovejoy, were present. The group enjoyed a delicious lunch. Pastor Marlene offered the blessing.

Corinne Duvall presented the program, “A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial.” The program was on giving of time, talents, tithing according to the Bible. Corinne presented many interesting facts on how our money is spent, how people can best spend and save their money, being aware that credit cards charge a lot of interest, and tithing 10 percent of our wealth. It was an eye-opening program.

Sharon Hahn, president, opened the business meeting by saying, “God Is Love.” The minutes of the March meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given. Dolly Combs had sent several cards this month.

The group planned a workday to be held at the church on Saturday, April 13, at 8:30 a.m. A District Day Apart was scheduled for 9 a.m., Saturday, April 13, at the Wilton United Methodist Church. A mission event will be held at the West Chester Methodist Church on April 26, with rolls and coffee at 9:30 a.m., followed by Missionary O.L. Ombaku of Nigeria, a mission financial officer who works for the United Methodist General Board of Global Missions to ensure funds are properly accounted for and disbursed. Anyone interested is invited to attend, especially from area Methodist churches. Please come.

The next meeting will be on May 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the church, with Peg Ebert of MUM presenting the program.
