Woman dies in accident Sunday
A Washington woman who graduated from Washington High School last spring was pronounced dead Sunday after a head-on collision in rural Johnson County.
Angela Marie Harrison, 18, of Washington was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City after her vehicle crossed the centerline, according to the Iowa State Patrol crash report, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the other vehicle, Melvin Herbert Hintze, 59, of Grand Mound, was injured in the
accident. He was taken by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The hospital media relations department was unavailable to give a condition report.
According to the crash report, at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, a 2011 Chevy Aveo that Harison was driving was eastbound on Highway 22 at the junction of Utah Avenue in Johnson County. A 2002 Ford Ranger pickup driven by Hintze was westbound. According to the report, for unknown reasons, the Aveo crossed the centerline, hitting the Ranger head on. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway on Highway 22. The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
The report said there was also a passenger in the Ranger, who was also transported to the University Hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
