The Highland School Board welcomed a new member and elected a new president and vice president to its board Monday evening.

This was the first meeting the school board had scheduled since the election results from the Sept. 12 school board election results were finalized.

Meegan Allen was newly elected to represent Highland’s District No. 5, Rachel Longbine was re-elected to Highland’s District No. 1 and Kevin Engel received write-in votes to remain on the board in Highland’s District No. 3. The oath of office was given to these three during the reorganizational meeting.

Nominations were taken for president.

Board member Rachel Longbine nominated Nate Robinson for the position. No one else was nominated. He was approved unanimously and took the oath of office immediately following.

The next nominations held were for vice president.

Meegan Allen was nominated by board member Mike Golden. Board member Lois Schneider nominated Rachel Longbine, who politely declined.

Allen was voted in unanimously as vice president of the school board and took the oath of office.

Other items covered during the school board meeting included: approving the district’s depositories, appointing Sue Rich as the district’s secretary and treasurer, appointing board committee members for the 2017-18 school year, approving grant applications to the Washington County Riverboat Foundation for the fall grant cycle and approving the modified allowable growth and supplemental aid for a negative special education balance in the amount of $590,156.12.
