2013 Fair begins

Rabbit, poultry and heifer contests today

The Goat Show was held Monday afternoon at the 2013 Washington County Fair. During the competition, announcers told the audience that numbers were up from last year’s goat show.

The 4-H & FFA dog and goat shows kicked off the first day of the 2013 Washington County Fair Monday as temperatures remained high, but a nice breeze kept participants cool.
Winning the large agility class in the dog obedience show was Oren Danker of the Good Luck 4-H Club, with second place going to Brandon Kleese of the Horse and Pony Club. Kellie Dallmeyer of the Washington Hustlers showed the winner of the medium agility class, with Addison McGuire of Washington Hustlers named reserve. In the small dog agility class, Maggie Smith of Washington Go-Getters showed the champion and Turner Klein of 76 Progressives showed the reserve.
McGuire won the dog showmanship, first and second year member competition, with Jacob Ross of Washington Hustlers earning the reserve. Jessica Schoonover of Horse and Pony Club won the dog showmanship, third year member and older contest, with Alexey England of Prairie Pride showing the reserve. In the champion dog obedience pre novice A – first year contest, Lindsey Roth of Horse and Pony Club won first place honors, with Cheyenne Sedlacek of Crooked Creek coming in second. Smith won the champion dog obedience pre-novice B – second year contest, with McGuire placing. Sierra Wagner of Prairie Pride won the champion dog obedience sub-novice – third year contest, and Jack Streb of Bows and Bullets came in second.
In the novice fourth year dog class, Kleese got first place, with Lexi Black of Horse and Pony Club showing the reserve champion. England showed the champion graduate novice. Black won the overall grand champion contest and Schoonover took home the reserve prize.
Brenda McArtor of Crooked Creek  won the champion senior goat showmanship and Sage Becker of Mid-Prairie FFA was the reserve in the dairy and meat goat competition. The champion intermediate goat showmanship award went to Spencer Arnold of Riverside Ramblers, and reserve champ was Sydney Black of Highlanders. The champion junior goat showmanship prize went to Haley Sweeting of Riverside Ramblers, and the reserve prize went to Shae Becker of 76 Progressives.
Sarah Greiner of Prairie Pride won the champion rate of gain –wether contest and Arnold won the reserve prize. The grand champion commercial meat goat doe/wether prize went to Shae Becker, with Arnold getting the reserve.  
Ben Ahrens of Mid-Prairie FFA got both champion and reserve honors in the junior dairy doe contest. Sara Titus of Mid-Prairie FFA won the champion yearling dairy doe contest, and Shari Temple of Keota FFA got reserve honors. Titus also won the champion senior dairy doe contest and the champion and reserve classes in the grand champion dairy goat event. Sedlacek won the champion dairy goat wether class and David Fladung of Mid-Prairie FFA got the reserve.
Arnold won the champion junior breeding meat goat doe contest and Haley Sweeting of Riverside Ramblers won the reserve award. Sweeting went on to win the champion breeding yearling meat goat doe contest, with McArtor showing the reserve. Sweeting also won the champion breeding meat goat doe and the grand champion meat goat doe contests, with Arnold showing the reserve grand champion meat goat doe.
