Three different soccer teams from Washington had the chance to take part in the Iowa Games earlier this month in Ames.

Out of the three teams, two earned silver medals as well as sportsmanship awards.

The Washington U12 9v9 co-ed team played in the competitive division against teams from Ottumwa and Des Moines going 0-2-1.

The Washington U14 6v6 male team, known as Washington United, won silver as did the Washington U19 6v6 male team.

The U14 team went 5-5 in game 1, 2-4 in the second game, 5-0 in the third game and 7-3 in the fourth game.

The U19 team, Thunder FC, was up 6-1 at halftime and went on to win the game 13-1 to get silver.

Both the U14 and U19 teams were awarded the sportsmanship award, too.

“As the head high school coach, this makes me very proud of the young men in our soccer program,” says high school coach Sally Hart regarding the sportsmanship award given to the U19 team.
