4-H Mini County Fair visits Halcyon House

Photo by: Washington County 4-H McKenna Brinning, daughter of Shane and Kathleen Brinning, brought in two baby piglets to share. Emma Stout of the Jackson Jets assisted in sharing the piglets with residents. Several other animals visited as well. Mason Wiles shared a mini horse, Grant Marek a bucket bottle calf, Hannah Van Roekel led a goat, Ryan Chalupa shared his dog and Miranda Romoser included a baby kitten at the fair as well.

The dust of the Washington County Fair barely had time to settle before a traveling mini county fair visited Halcyon House Monday afternoon. Over 30 residents enjoyed a variety of county fair activities led by Leadership Development 4-H'ers.

Twelve Leadership Development members completed their community service project by taking a mini fair to the residents. They decided on this project in April, divided into committees, and planned an afternoon of entertainment for the Halcyon residents.

Residents enjoyed a variety of young farm animal visitors. They also played barnyard bingo, enjoyed lemonade shakeups and corn dogs for a fair snack. 4-H'er Miranda Romser prepared and presented a slide show about the current 4-H program and fairgrounds improvements.

Residents ended the afternoon visiting with the 4-H members about their own 4-H or county fair memories.

Leadership Development is a leadership development class 4-H'ers complete before applying to the high school leadership teams. For more information on Washington County 4-H leadership opportunities, contact the Washington County Extension Office at 319-653-4811.
