Public health discusses ending home health care services

By Linda Wenger | Mar 17, 2010

Washington County Public Health and Home Care administrator Edie Nebel told the county Board of Health that the new public health department facility apparently did not receive the $550,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that the department hoped to be the first dollars obtained for the project. The board of health met Tuesday morning.

Nebel said that she had not received a letter from the Iowa Department of Economic Development, which oversees the CDBG program, saying that the project was not funded. Based on what others told her, though, she said she was assuming the project was not funded. She also said that she has asked for the score sheet and reviewers’ remarks the grant application received.

The public health department is applying for a $750,000 grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation, Nebel said. She also said that assistant county engineer Jacob Thorius submitted a request for $1 million to Congressman Dave Loebsack’s office.
