Accident reported Monday afternoon in Riverside

RIVERSIDE — The Iowa State Patrol reports that an accident occurred at 4:15 p.m. Monday within the city limits of Riverside.
According to the report, a 2000 Dodge Dakota driven by Edward A. Shuttleworth, 56, of Bettendorf, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane on Highway 22 just east of Willow Avenue, attempting to pass a 1995 Chevrolet C15 pulling a tandem axle trailer. Scott A. Kennedy, 47, of Lone Tree, was driving the Chevrolet. The report says that the Chevrolet swerved into the westbound lane and the Dodge struck the rear of the trailer. Both vehicles were traveling about 55 mph at the time of the accident.
The report says that functional damage was done to the trailer. Both drivers had been wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Airbags in both vehicles were operable and did not deploy. Neither driver was transported to the hospital. Shuttleworth reported possible injuries, while Kennedy was uninjured.
The report says that Kennedy was cited for financial liability – accident.
