Adult volunteers needed for 4-H clubs

Sep 01, 2017

The 4-H mission says “4-H empowers youth to reach their full potential through youth-adult partnerships and research-based experiences. 4-H in Washington County cannot be what it is today without the many different types of volunteers and as the new year ramps up exciting many new members to join, there is a need for a variety of adult volunteers.

The St. James Clover Kids Club is in need of a caring adult volunteer who can fulfill the duties of co-leader. This is a club that meets monthly for an hour for fun, fellowship and learning with a group of kindergarten to third-graders after school from the St. James School. This large club is looking for additional adults to assist monthly with leader Lynne Sheetz.

The Kalona Klassics 4-H Club is in need of a co-leader to work with current leader Marty Van Roekel. This club is made of fourth to 12th-grade youth from the Kalona area with a variety of interests. They meet once a month in Kalona for hour long meetings that can include field trips, special guests, hands-on experiments and regular club meeting agendas.

The Clover Kid clubs are a part of and strongly connected to the Washington County 4-H program. These non-competitive clubs are open to kindergarten to third-grade youth across the county. The Washington community specifically has a large need for an additional club to serve this area. This would take a couple of caring adults to work as a team to coordinate meeting times, location, schedule of activities all with the assistance of the Washington County Extension.

All 4-H adult volunteers must complete a background screen and upon approval are provided professional development through Iowa State University Extension annually with continued support provided to volunteers throughout the year.

Please contact Amy at the Washington County Extension Office for more information on this or other ways to support 4-H in Washington County, 319-653-4811 or amygreen@iastate.edu.
