Ag Lunch and Learn to be held

Mar 01, 2018

FAIRFIELD — Join Jefferson County Extension for the third “Ag Lunch and Learn” on March 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The topic for this lunch and learn will focus on genetically modified organisms or GMOs. Dr. Ruth MacDonald, the former chair of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition and newly appointed interim senior associate dean for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, will be the key speaker presenting on the “Science on your Plate: Consumer Perceptions of Food and Biotechnology.”

“There are a lot of different opinions surrounding GMOs,” said Rebecca Vittetoe, field agronomist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. “Dr. MacDonald’s presentation will focus on using science to untangle the facts about biotechnology and the food we eat.”

The event will be held at the Jefferson County Activities Building, which is located next to the Jefferson County Extension Office. The address for the extension office is 2606 West Burlington Ave., Fairfield.

A light lunch will be provided by Jefferson County Extension. The lunch and learn is free and open to the public. To get an accurate head count for the meal, please RSVP to the Jefferson County Extension office by calling 641-472-4166 by noon on March 27.

Program partners for the Jefferson County “Ag Lunch and Learn” are Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, and the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

For more information, please contact Rebecca Vittetoe at 319-653-4811, or the Jefferson County Extension office at 641-472-4166.
