Annual Studio Tour this weekend

By David Hotle | Oct 14, 2013

This year when people view the Southeast Iowa Artists’ Studio Tour in Washington County, there will be seven new artists for them to see.

Washington County coordinator JoAnne Worley said that she has done some recruiting of artists to feature in the fifth annual studio tour, which will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The new artists will feature such things as feather painting, a new book on Santa Claus, and the art of textiles. The tour will be in and around Washington, Henry, Van Buren, and Des Moines counties.

“It is a self-guided tour,” Worley said. “People can pick up a brochure for a map or go on-line to find one.”

Worley said that this year there are also several new sponsors for the event. A mini-grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation was also received.

In Washington County, the studios include: Dave Stoufer at 1229 South Iowa Avenue in Washington; Pedro Lujano at 944 South Iowa Avenue in Washington; Doris Park and Steve Maxon at 611 B Avenue in Kalona; Donna Guy and JoAnne Worley will display at the Donna Guy Studio at 300 Jefferson Street in Brighton; Kathleen Almelein and Michael York at Blair House, 205 East Washington Street in Washington; and artists Laura Weinberg, Judy Cabral, Wendy Read and Christal Arthur will all display works at the Brighton Community Center, 100 E. Washington St. in Brighton.

Maps of the full tour are available at the Washington Library, many businesses in Washington and Kalona, the Kalona Public Library or online at <www.iowastudiotour.org>. Ray said people wanting more information should call her at 653-6387.
