Area runners compete in Fairfield

Three of the area’s cross-country teams were in action on Thursday night as Washington, Iowa Mennonite and Highland all competed at Waterworks Park in Fairfield.

Washington placed fifth in both the boys’ and girls’ standings. The boys scored 112 points on the day and the girls scored 125.

The Demon boys had three runners in the top 10. Brennan Horak was seventh in 17:42.11. Evan Horak placed eighth in 17:50.60, and Jacob VanOsdol was ninth in 17:55.52.

Matthew Collett came across the line in 20:17.86 for 42nd place. Blake Hartzler was 46th in 20:23.51. Ben Schiefer placed 52nd in 21:40.18, and Kiowa Kieth was 54th place with a time of 22:04.39.

The Demon girls were led by Brooke Stout, who placed 13th in 21:41.23. Molly Sparks finished 17th in 21:57.87. Meredith Raber was 27th in 22:57.48. Ashley Telleen Placed 29th in 23:11.27. Bailey Bryant placed 39th in 24:53.61. Josie Tanner was 41st in 25:11.55, and Hannah Rees placed 47th (no time listed).

The Highland girls had a fifth-place finish in the small school standings with 121 points. The Huskies were led by Taylor Sublette, who finished the race in 22:39.08 for 13th place. Madison Thomann placed 15th in 22:47.07.

Zoe Mahler placed 19th with a time of 23:22.03. Fiona Mahler placed 28th in 14:47.91, and Kate McFarland placed 46th in 28:29.51.

The IMS girls placed eighth in the event with 191 points. They were led by Mackenzie Gutierrez (31st, 25:16.73) and Sarena Gerber (32nd, 25:17.41).

Rachel Geyer placed 40th with a time of 27:45.73. Greta Schrag finished 41nd, in 27:46.55. Kennedy Rot was 47th. Meredith Blossom placed 49th and Ainsley Shaw finished 50th. No times were listed for the last three runners.

In the small school boys’ race, IMS was seventh with 162 points and Highland placed eighth with 208 points.

Levi Geyer had a great race for IMS, crossing the line in 17:31.18 to lead the team. Jacob Boller placed 20th in 19:31.48. Aaron Hershberger was 44th in 22:24.64. Gibson Lowenberg placed 46th in 22.27.06. Jesse Slater placed 49th in 23:13.58. Micah Miller was 50th in 23:14.74, and Gideon Sangare was 52nd in 23:29.13.

The Highland boys were led by Bryan Redlinger and Mason Manley. Redlinger was 31st in 21:03.69 and Manley placed 32nd in 21:04.34. levi Schnoebelen was 45th in 22:25.65. Jacob Roling placed 47th in 22:48.43. Luke VanSchoyk placed 53rd in 24:56.72. Nathan Butler placed 55th in 25:19.58,a nd Matt Butler palced 58th in 26:51.16.
