At the Library

By McKenna Burdock | Sep 11, 2017

With school back in full swing, the Washington Public Library has started spreading the word about programs on early-out Wednesdays! We are still continuing the Movie Madness, but every other week, there will be Wacky Wednesday. At Wacky Wednesday, there will be different “wacky” activities ranging from Wacky Game Day to Silly Slime Party to Super STEM activities. Grades kindergarten to fifth0graders are welcome to join the wacky fun! The library asks parents to sign up for Wacky Wednesday by emailing jenisa.harris@washington.lib.ia.us or talking to a librarian at the front desk.

Wacky Wednesdays aren’t the only new thing for students. Back-2-School BINGO was added to the mix! A younger student approached one of our librarians, worried about her reading skills during the school year. She said that with the summer BINGO cards, her skills had improved and she wanted to continue with BINGO cards throughout the year. Instead of having one card, like during the summer, we will have SIX cards! After every due date, there is a BINGOpalooza! If a student turns in all six of the cards, they will be able to go to the Big Bash BINGOpalooza in May! This is for kiddos in kindergarten to fifthgrade. The Washington Public Library hopes to have the fun of the summer transfer through the whole year!
