At the Library

By By George Guerra | Feb 12, 2018

Hello! It’s me, George. The last time I wrote an At The Library column I was still a new hire. As corny as it sounds, time does go by quickly when you’re having fun. It’s been almost five months since I’ve last written one. It really hits me when I realize that I’m not even the newest hire anymore! Not to olong ago, we welcomed a new librarian, Allie to the library! My time left here at the library is short, though. This May, I’m not only graduating from high school, I’m also leaving to perform with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps out in Dubuque. You may ask yourself, “Is that a marching band?” You’re mostly correct. However, we have all-day rehearsals for a month. After that, we tour for two months across the country. We go as far south as San Antonio and as far north as Pennsylvania! I’ll be playing tuba with this ensemble. It’s a very exciting time, but I’ll have to leave the library. It’s bittersweet.

We have some very exciting things coming up, so be sure to follow the Washington Public Library on Facebook for updates. On Tuesday, Feb. 13 , at Noon, Mimi Jacoby will be reading a short story of Carrie Young’s, “The Wedding Dress.” Bring your brown bag meal. Come. Relax. Enjoy your lunch. Listen to the story of a bittersweet tale of love and longing, taking place on the Dakota prairies in the late 1800s. Treat yourself to a helping of courage, kindness and romance, this Valentine’s month. We will meet and eat in the second floor lounge area. Both staff and the public are welcome.

These are the new materials available at the library this week.
