At the Library

By George Guerra | Apr 23, 2018

I just recently read Ready Player One by Ernest Cline in preparation for the movie that was just recently released. The book was an incredibly well done book that is filled to the brim with references from the 1980s. The book is about Wade Watts, a young adult who escapes the post-energy crisis world by utilizing the OASIS, a world within virtual reality that lets him, and many others, become a persona that can resemble as much, or as little, as whomever they wish. The story begins with Wade introducing Halliday’s Easter Egg which, when found, gives the player who found it a very, very large sum of money. Those who hunt for the egg were called Egg Hunters or Gunters for short. To find the egg, one must solve a riddle to find the first key. The first key gives access to the first gate, and then the process repeats three times. The story begins with how Wade Watts find the first key.

The book was an incredible experience, even though most of the references flew over my head. The fun was being introduced to many classic pop-culture references and looking up different videos on YouTube. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to look things up independently and just loves pop-culture in general.

These are the new materials available at the library this week.
