Auditorium informational meeting set for March 27

By Xiomara Levsen | Mar 20, 2014

A public informational meeting about the proposed high school auditorium will be held next week.
The meeting will be on Thursday, March 27, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the commons at Washington High School, according to a press release from Washington Community School District superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen.
“This is just an informational meeting,” Jorgensen said. “We’ll be there to answer any questions people may have, not to promote the auditorium.”
A representative from SVPA Architects will give a short presentation about the proposed auditorium, the press release said. Blueprints and renderings will also be available to view.
Jan Gallagher, committee chairperson for the proposed high school auditorium group, hopes this meeting will answer questions for the upcoming bond vote on April 1.
“We want more people involved and to know what they’re voting for,” she said.
Information about the cost of the bond vote will be available, Gallagher said, and hopefully information about the district’s tax levy will be available to view.
“It’s important for people to know the bond won’t raise their taxes because the levy decreased to $14.05,” she said.
The school district recently learned the tax valuation would go down to $14.05 per $1,000 valuation, Gallagher said.
