Baumert family reunion held July 9 in Keota

The descendants of the Oscar and Bessie Baumert family met for their annual reunion, Sunday, July 9, at Holy Trinity Parish Hall in Keota. There were 76 in attendance. Following the blessing by Gene Baumert, a bountiful cooperative dinner at 1 p.m. was enjoyed by all.

Those in attendance were: Eula Baumert of Pensacola, Florida, and Keaton Baumert of Cantonment, Florida; Matthew Baumert and Jill Lenahan of Lomax, Illinois; Joseph Baumert of Des Moines; Dr. Paul Jr. and Julie Baumert of Pleasant Hill; Sandra Killin of Urbandale; Patricia Hotka of Des Moines; Aaron, Leslie, Ian and Evan Schaver of Waterloo; Larry and Connie Baumert, Bill and Carolyn Toomer, Brian, Cassie, Liam and Ivan Dohmen of Marion; Shelley Baumert, LeAnn Williams, Breanna, Jamari and Jasyia Williams of Cedar Rapids; Jordynn and Jaydynn Baumert of Vinton; David, Hannah and Conner Calacci of Tiffin; Irene Baumert of Burlington; Mark Baumert of Ainsworth; Gwen Thyen, Tracy Baumert, Emily and Emma Baumert and Jeremy Peterson of Washington; Nathan Baumert of Washington and Jenny Tobin of Keota; Ethan, Kelsey and Addyson Hammes of Wellman; Cheryl Steffen, and Joanne Baumert Tomalka of Ottumwa; Pat and Sue Phannebecker of Hedrick; Greg and Kathy Brower of Richland; Joel and Josie Goldman of Delta; Marilyn Van Fleet, Amanda, Lyla and Wyatt Smothers of North English; Frances Baumert, Loretta Streigle, Colleen Goldman, Peter and Patty Hammes, Richard, Christine, and Ashley Baumert, Aaron and Tammy Streigle, Benjamin, Missy and Korben Hammes of Sigourney; Pearl Hammes of Sigourney and Connor Johnson of Montezuma; Lily Hammes and Blane Long of Sigourney; Dennis and Judy Baumert, Jeff Crossett, and Gene Baumert of Keota.

Frances Baumert of Sigourney was the eldest in attendance, and her great-granddaughter, 8-month-old Addyson Hammes of Wellman, was the youngest.

A thinking-of-you card was signed for Margaret Burk and family of Bucklin, Missouri. A guessing game was played, with Dr. Paul Baumert Jr. of Pleasant Hill named the winner. Everyone enjoyed playing Bingo, with many prizes given. It was decided to pass the responsibility of the annual Baumert reunion to the next generation, and Kathy Brower of Richland accepted that position. Picture-taking and visiting rounded out the day.

The 2018 Baumert reunion will be held the second Sunday in July, at the St. Mary’s Hall in Keota.
