Beef veterinarians to give annual update at ISU McNay Farm on May 15

CHARITON — The annual Update for Veterinarians program, organized and provided by the Iowa Beef Center, features a full day of education and information focused on beef cattle. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach beef specialist Joe Sellers coordinates the program and invites practitioners who work with cattle to make plans now to attend the event Tuesday, May 15, at the Iowa State University McNay Research Farm near Chariton.

“We’re pleased to have eight speakers from Iowa State University and ISU Extension and Outreach share current information,” Sellers said. “This program is an opportunity for our veterinary colleagues to get in-depth and up-to-date information on topics including low stress handling, health considerations for grazing cover crops and Johnes and BRD updates. Also, we’ve requested six hours of continuing education credits.”

There is preregistration fee for those who preregister by May 14, which includes the noon meal. Those who register onsite will pay $85. All registrations are done through the Lucas County Extension Office in Chariton.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the McNay headquarters with the first speaker starting at 9:15 a.m. A catered meal will be served at noon. The program is expected to end at 4 p.m.
