Betty Jane Stewart, 86, of Ainsworth, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, in the United Presbyterian Home after a lengthy illness.

Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 20, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Burial will be at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A general memorial has been established.

Mrs. Stewart was born July 13, 1927, in Washington County, the daughter of Charles Joseph and Rose Ida (Knotek) Sojka. She married Warren Eugene “Gene” Stewart on Aug. 30, 1952, in Washington.

She graduated from Washington High School and later attended AIB College of Business in Des Moines. She served as the Washington County deputy treasurer for approximately 40 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveling with family and friends. She and her husband had enjoyed wintering in the South since 1985. She enjoyed fishing and golfing, and she was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Sports fan.

Surviving are her husband; one son, Anthony R. “Tony” Stewart and wife Kaye of Washington; two daughters, Jane E. Flander and husband Murray of Keota, and Rhonda L. Wilson and husband Tim of Ainsworth; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Anita Sojka of Kalona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Lorene M. Cerny, LuElla J. Beenblossom, Dorothy R. Wollrab, and Marie K. Kleopfer; and three brothers, Vince J. Sojka, Dale K. Sojka, and Harold C. Sojka.
