The Washington boys’ and girls’ bowling teams hosted conference rival Keokuk Saturday at Lebowski’s Rock & Bowl. The girls’ team fell short by 400 pins to move to 4-4 on the season while the boys, with only three rollers vs Keokuk’s six, lost 2522 – 1493.

Drake Schluetter rolled a 350 in the individual matches to pace the Demon boys. Keaton Zear put up a 336 and Tucker Renoux finished with a 335. The boys combined for 472 during the Baker Round.

“I’m extremely happy with the boys’ performance on Saturday,” said boys’ Coach Chad Zear. “Unfortunately we don’t have enough bowlers to qualify for a win, but as a team we averaged 170 and Keokuk averaged 163 in the individual round. I challenged my boys to bowl a total series of 1300 and they came through with a 1493. They came together and showed what great attitudes will do.”

The Demon girls, with a full team, matched up more favorably against the Chiefs. Even with a full squad, Washington wasn’t able to upset the undefeated Keokuk squad. Following the first round of individual matches the Demons trailed by 90 pins and couldn’t make up the deficit through the second individual or Baker rounds.

Taylor Janecek rolled a combined 290 in the individual rounds to lead Washington. Rylie Swart had a team high 190 in her first individual game and finished just behind Janecek with a combined 282.
