Brighton Bear Cub Club studies ice cream

Feb 11, 2013
Photo by: Washington County Extension To make their homemade ice cream, the Brighton Bear Cubs partnered up to help with recipe reading, measuring, and mixing. Leslie Lloyd, daughter of Pearl Lloyd, helps Clara Williams, daughter of Michele Williams, add salt to her ice, which starts the freezing process.

The Brighton Bear Cub Club gathered Wednesday, Feb. 6, after school at the Brighton Community Building.

Youth talked about the characteristics of solids and liquids and then witnessed the changing of the two when making homemade vanilla ice cream in zip lock bags. It was a cold 10-minute process but tasty in the end!

They also made several outdoor bird feeders with recycled materials, peanut butter and bird seed to hang in the trees at their homes.

Brighton Bear Cub Club is delivered by Washington County Extension and Outreach and sponsored by Brighton Horizons. The Bear Cubs will meet for the last time on Feb. 20 at Brighton Community Building . For more information contact the Washington County Extension Office at 319-653-4811.
