The Washington Journal, the Mt. Pleasant News, the Fairfield Ledger and the Cedar Rapids Gazette are hosting a Women in Business luncheon and conference Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Riverside Casino and Golf in Riverside.

“We chose October for the conference because it has been designated as National Business Women’s Month,” said Julie Scott. Scott is the Advertising Director of the Washington Evening Journal.

Scott said the conference offers some unique opportunities to attendees.

“It provides an occasion for local business women to meet with other successful women and network with their peers. It’s a chance for women to expand their business relationships in a welcoming environment,” she said.

Marlo Higgins, author of “Ignite Your Success” will deliver the keynote presentation during lunch. A panel discussion will be led by Dawn Oliver Wiand, Executive Director, Iowa Women’s Foundation (Coralville).

The panel includes business leaders from many fields.

Sharing the stage are are Nicole Baron-Kruse, Store Manager, Health and Wholeness (Fairfield) ; Shari DeMaris, Senior Vice President and CFO, Hills Bank and Trust Company (Hills) ; Melissa Flowers, Membership Coordinator, Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance (Mt. Pleasant), Sarah Grunewaldt, Executive Director, Main Street Washington (Washington) ; Freda Sojka, CEO, Simply Soothing (Columbus Junction).

“We have worked hard to put together a really good program. Hopefully, it will inspire women to reach for their dream and find support for their projects,” Scott said.

Registration and networking begin at 11 a.m., followed by the luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Individual luncheon tickets are available for $35. Or purchase a table of 10 for $350.

Following the luncheon, those attending can participate in an optional, special workshop led by keynote speaker Marlo Higgins. Workshop participants will learn how to evaluate and be accountable for personal successes, create a visual display of success and implement those successes into current and future business plans.

Workshop tickets are $50 and include the luncheon. You can also purchase a table to the workshop and luncheon for $500.

Sponsors for the event include Hills Bank and Trust Company, Washington County Hospitals and Clinics, Luxe Interiors and Toyota of Iowa City.
