Car and bus collide

Firefighters examine a Washington School District bus that was involved in an accident this morning.

A Washington Community School District (WCSD) school bus and a car were in an accident Tuesday morning at the corner of South Third Street and East Monroe Street about a little before eight a.m.
The Washington Police Department, Washington Rescue, and Washington County Ambulance all responded to the scene.
“I heard it over the radio,” said WCSD Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen. “The bus driver called it in saying she hit a car.”
According to Jorgensen, there were nine high school students on the bus at the time of the accident. He said there appears to be no injuries at this time.
“We had them all checked out by the Washington County Ambulance and they all indicated they were fine,” Jorgensen said. “We told them if they start to feel stiff later to go to the school nurse.”
Jorgensen said the secretaries at Washington High School were in the process of notifying the students’ parents Tuesday morning.
