Chamber seeks parade entries

With the 71st annual Ridiculous Day parade coming up a week from Saturday, residents and businesses are asked to do their part to help make the annual parade more ridiculous than ever. The Washington Chamber of Commerce is giving registration information for the annual parade. Details are available at the Chamber or on the chamber’s website. There will be a $10 entry fee for a float to be eligible for judging and the grand prize. A traveling trophy and a 50/50 cash prize is at stake this year for the winner of the event. There also will be plaques for second and third place entries. Judging will be done on theme and design, appearance, and workmanship. Bonus points will be awarded if the float is ridiculous.

Entries are asked to arrive for the parade at 1 p.m. for registration at the corner of West Washington Street and South B Avenue.

Other events to be held during Ridiculous day include:

9am-4pm: Washington County History Tour with Mike Zahs, includes showing of Saving Brinton. Register at the Washington Chamber, $50. 653-3272. 9am-3pm: Washington Area Amateur Radio Club Information & Activity Booth

9 a.m.: Businesses open with Ridiculous Bargains & Sidewalk Sales. 9 a.m.: Ridiculous Book Sale at the Library

9:30 a.m.: Registration at Dodici’s for Ridiculous Superhero & Princess Contest (participants invited to join parade)

10 a.m.: Showing of Saving Brinton at State Theater (Tickets available at Theater in advance or day of) 10 a.m.: Optimist Club Bike Auction Bikes displayed at 8 a.m. 10 a.m.-1p.m.: Photo Booth provided by Washington State Bank 10 a.m.: Ridiculous Princess Contest 10:30 a.m.: Ridiculous Superhero Contest 11:30 a.m. Lunch Begins. Enjoy Food Vendors!
