The Washington Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Candidates Forum from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26, at the United Presbyterian Church’s Fellowship Hall for the Washington city council and mayoral candidates, Washington Chamber of Commerce volunteer and moderator of the forum Ed Raber said.

Candidates for the following races included: for mayor, Jaron Rosien and Pete Schaefer; for council-at-Large Elaine Moore and Evie Richardson; in Ward 4 Bob Gaal, Chris Gault and Fran Stigers; in Ward 2 Steve Gault is running unopposed.

The forum is open for the public to attend.

“There are eight candidates seeking four different offices,” Raber said. “Three of those races are contested.”

Of the eight candidates, only two currently serve on the council — Steve Gault, who is running unopposed, and Jaron Rosien, who is running for mayor, vacating his Ward 4 council seat, he said.

The current mayor Sandra Johnson and at-large council member Kathy Salazar chose not to run for office again.

“There are many new faces running for office,” Raber said. “The candidate forum gives the public a chance to hear and compare the candidates all together.”

Candidates will have two minutes to answer each question they’re given, so the forum is expected to last almost two hours.
