City and Conservation Board to discuss expanding KeWash Trail

By David Hotle | Mar 12, 2014

The Washington County Conservation Board will learn about a plan to build an extension from the KeWash Trail to the new Kirkwood facility during its meeting Thursday afternoon. Washington City Administrator Brent Hinson said today the new trail would help the city receive a Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grant to improve the trail, after being denied a grant for paving. The new trail would extend about one-third of a mile, past Willow Pond to Kirkwood. Hinson said that the trail would add pedestrian and bike access to Kirkwood.
Hinson said the project was discussed last year but the city ran out of time to apply for the REAP grant. He said that the city also needs to discuss the project with Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar, as the trail would run past the Washington County Jail.
