Civil infraction issued for dog chase

Jul 27, 2018

By David Hotle, The JOURNAL

Earlier this week, Washington Police Chief Greg Goodman said officers would begin writing civil infractions for loose dog cases instead of the traditional citations. On Thursday, one was issued.

Goodman said in cases where there are habitual offenders, officers would use that option which carries a heavier fine than citations. He said the first instance has a $250 fine; second offense is $500; and all after are $750.

At 9:13 a.m. Thursday, a caller reported a tan and white pit bull chased after her while she was riding her bike on the Kewash Trail in the 500 block of West Fifth Street in Washington. It belonged to a house where the trail begins. The Washington County call log reported a civil infraction would be issued to Sedrick Johnson, 36, of Washington.
