The Wayland Lions Club held their July meeting at the Wayland Community Center. There were 15 members present and one guest.

President Jim Hester called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Robert Meyer gave the Invocation before the meeting broke for a delicious meal catered by Alice Hochstetler.

At the resumption of the meeting, Lion Marianne Pattyson read the minutes for May and June. Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s Report.

Both treasury and secretary reports were approved.

Old Business: Wayland Lions Club will sponsor future Blood Drives to be held in

August and September; The July 4 Pancake Breakfast was a successful event; as always,

and witnessed many old and new friends enjoying the pancakes, sausage and eggs served by the Wayland Lions;

New Business: car show is scheduled for August 26 (Rain Date Aug. 27) on

North Parkway from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m; There will be DJ for the event and food and refreshments;Steve Miller is running the show and asked for 6 to 8 Lion Volunteers to sell 50-50 tickets; There is car registration fee; There will be (Plaques) for separate classes of vehicles; Wayland Lions Annual Rose Sale consists of a Dozen Roses for a fee; Deliveries will be made to the recipient’s home on Saturday, Sept. 16. This is a perfect opportunity to surprise a loved one at a reasonable price.

Special News: New President Chuck Brown was passed the gavel from outgoing

President Jim Hester,to begin his term as President. Membership Chairman Roger Roth inducted John Brown as a New Member

of the Wayland Lions Club. John’s Sponsor was his father, President Chuck Brown.

Membership Chairman Roger Roth was voted as recipient of the

prestigious Warren Coleman Honorary Award for his many years of exemplary service to the Wayland Lions Club, Wayland and its surrounding communities.

Roger will be a 50 year member of the Wayland Lions Club on Oct. 1, 2018.

Guest Speakers were Mayor Brad Roth and Wayland Lion Gary Lauger reviewed the Special

Bond Election for a New Henry County Jail voting on Aug. 1.

They noted that the present jail accommodates just eight beds in three cells. The proposed one-story law center will have 44 inmate beds in the23,022 square foot facility.

Voters may cast ballots Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Henry County’s Auditor’s Office.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
