The September meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary Leon Beatty Post No. 29 was held Sept. 12, at the Washington County Ambulance Center with five members attending.

President Sue Gilmere called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. The opening prayer was given by Dixie Young. The Pledge of Allegiance and the reading of the Preamble for God was spoken for all.

Review of the May meeting was done. There were no additions or corrections. A motion was made and approved by all.

Treasurer’s report: due to the absence of Dixie Conrad there was no treasurer’s report or membership update given.

Membership report: it was reported that the unit has two new members, Jamie and Alexa Edwards. Dues are due and have gone up from $20 to $25 per year and members are encouraged to try to get more people involved.

Old business: a motion was made in May to continue with the same officers: president Sue Gilmere; vice president Connie Pence; secretary Carla McCandless; treasuer Dixie Conrad; chaplain Dixie Young; historian Connie Pence and Girls State, Martha Hahn.

Sue and Dixie reported that the unit did well at the four car show bake sales. Thank you to all who donated baked goods or ice cream or helped out at the booth. Carla McCandless, a member of the Corn Country Cruisers, thanked the group from the car club.

A report was given about the district meeting.

Dixie Young gave a report on the poppy sales.

Martha Hahn gave a report on Girls State, reading a thank you from the girls who went. They will be invited to the Veterans Dinner Nov. 10 to speak of their experiences.

New business: There will be a meeitng to plan the Veterans Dinner Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the F Troop Museum for anyone wishing to help. Dixie Young will be contacting people for desserts and help.

Mary Bollinger said the district president project will be the Quad City Vet shelter.

The fall district meeting will be held in Marengo Oct. 28.

The group is asked to send reports to the dispatch of what the unit is doing over the year.
