Martha Washington Questers No. 1032 met for a special meeting this month, on Sept. 22, 2017. The meeting was held in the Washington Historic District, at the home of Linda Soukup. Five members, four guests, and one speaker attended.

After refreshments provided by all members, speaker Mary Patterson told the history of that neighborhood. She described the first homes in the area, which were built in the 1800s. She showed slides of some of them and then led the group through the years as the area developed. The whole area of West Main, West Washington and Madison Street are on the National Register of Historic Homes. She also told the interesting development of Sunset Park.

Leader Virginia Reighard led the meeting with the Questers Invocation. Minutes were read and approved, and the treasurer’s report was also read and approved. Virginia mentioned that some names were in incorrect order in the newspaper article about last month’s 35th anniversary celebration. She reported that it would not be possible to have a window display in the library until September 2018, and the idea was tabled. Members discussed a memorial for deceased member Pat Johnson, and it was decided to contribute to Walnut School, which was one of Pat’s favorite interests.

The next meeting will be on Oct. 27 at the home of Linda Newlon. Members were asked to bring a wedding gift that they still use.
