Columbus Junction girls’ team eliminated

Feb 18, 2014

WAPELLO – The Columbus Junction High School girls’ varsity basketball team lost its first-round district tournament game, 42 – 32, at Wapello on Saturday, Feb. 15.
A tight first quarter ended in Wapello holding a narrow 7 – 6 lead. The Wildcats outscored Wapello 14 – 8 in the second quarter to take a 21 – 14 lead into halftime. A 15 – 3 run by Wapello in the third quarter would be Columbus Junction’s undoing, however.
Junior Kelsey Pretz led the Wildcats with 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Senior Martha Anaya had four assists to lead Columbus Junction in that category. The Wildcats finish the season at 10 – 12.
