Couple to celebrate 70th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Conklin of Bentonville, Ark., are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary with their children at their home at 37 Stonehenge Drive in Bentonville.

Clifford Conklin and Caroline Sheets were married Jan. 10, 1943, in the Presbyterian parsonage in Washington, Iowa. Clifford was on leave from the Air Force. They have six children, Rex and Dorothy Stout of North English, Shirley and Charles Waldrop of Sigourney, Craig and Shirley Conklin of Washington, Carol Peterson and Eric of Bella Vista, Jody Burkett and Michelle, and Nicole Seek of Bella Vista. They have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Conklins spent four years in the Air Force in California. They farmed for 30 years in Iowa and the last 10 years as a county supervisor in Washington County. The couple retired to Bentonville in October 1976. While in Bentonville, they volunteered at the hospital, school and Walmart Swim Club. Clifford worked for Garden City and sold real estate for five years. They traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, Hawaii and Europe.
