The Crawfordsville Lions Club met at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 11, at the United Church of Crawfordsville for the annual Installation Banquet. In attendance were Arvid and Joan Anderson, Scott and Jeanne Davis, Darrell and Mary Egli, Randy Finke, Larry and Donna Fletcher, Joel and Luetta Greene, David and Lisa Jewell, Craig and Rachel Koehler, Gene and Betty Lintz, Larry and Nancy Love, Gene and Pat Miller, Lance Miller, Adam Mitchell, Billie Jo Rose , Loree and Kenny Stogdill, Larry and Barb Swailes, Steve and Janice Williams and Mindy Wilson. Special guest was District Governor for District 9SE Nancy Slack.

Lion President Billie Jo Rose called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Lion Secretary Nancy Love gave the invocation.

Following a delicious meal prepared and served by the United Church Women, District Governor Nancy Slack addressed the club and spoke about how Lions are changing the world in their second century of service. With 1.4 million Lions and Leos, they are the largest service club in the world. The group’s horizons are broadening from addressing vision and hearing problems to include diabetes, pediatric cancer and hunger.

She also presented Billie Jo Rose with the Past President’s pin.

Awards for perfect attendance were given to Billie Jo Rose, 8 years; Gene Miller, 15 years; Scott Davis, 27 years; Mike Massey, 38 years and Randy Finke, 38 years. Lion Secretary Nancy Love was awarded the Si Finke Memorial Lion of the Year award. Lion Arvid Anderson was recognized for 64 years as a Lion. Lion Anderson also had a display which included a Lions 100-year Gold lapel pin, along with other Lions lapel pins and a 2017 Lions Club International Centennial Silver Dollar.

Installation of officers followed: President Lance Miller: 1st Vice President, Adam Mitchell; 2nd Vice President Larry Swailes; Secretary Nancy Love; Treasurer Randy Finke; Tail Twister Larry Fletcher; Lion Tamer Mike Massey; One Year Directors Larry Swailes and Mindy Wilson and Two Year Directors Gene Miller and Joel Greene.

Past President Billie Jo Rose passed the President’s Pin on to Lance Miller as he took the gavel.

Minutes from the June 12 meeting were approved as read. There was no treasurer’s report.

Old Business: things were reported in order for the Saturday, Sept. 16, Pancake Breakfast.

​There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.​

The United Church Women met Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the Fellowship with 11 ladies in attendance.

The meditation was given by Joyce Huff citing “simplify life and enjoy it more,” followed by all saying the Lord’s Prayer.

The meeting was called to order by President Debbie Lowe and the Opening Creed was read in unison.

Minutes of the last meeting were read by secretary Billie Jo Rose and approved as read.

Pat Miller, treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report and it will be filed for audit.

Committee Reports: Local Activities — the date for the Harvest Sale has been set for Saturday, Oct. 28.

One funeral meal had been served.

It was reported that 32 were served at the Lions Supper Monday evening, Sept. 11.

Dorcas: Wilma reported 32 bags were finished on Monday, Sept. 11, making a total of 132 for the year so far. She reported her daughter Chris had presented her with a quilt she had finished for her 90th birthday, which Wilma’s late mother had started many years ago.

Cards, Flowers and Gifts: The usual had been sent.

Study and Devotions/Mission Outreach: Clarissa Malmberg shared a message on Uruguay. The regular offering, the World Thank offering and the Least Coin offering were taken and members recited the Fellowship of the Least Coin together.

The 2018 list to sign up for hostesses and devotions was passed.

Fall Rummage Sale Report was given.

Thanksgiving Kit Reports: Helen asked that UCW once again pay for the toothpaste for each kit. All items for kits must be in by the last week in October.

Old Business: It was decided to meet in January, March, May, July, September, November and December starting in 2018 and evaluate at the end of that year.

New Business: UPW Annual Mission Pledge due Oct. 1

Election of Officers at next meeting

Upcoming Events/News Items: Iowa Conference UMW Annual Meeting in Washington Oct. 7. Registration due Oct. 1.

Next Regular Meeting will be held Oct.10.

Meditation and Hostess: Ruth Erwin

Dorcas will meet Sept. 25, Oct. 9 and 23 and Nov. 13.

Work Committees: September: Debbie and Billie Jo; October: Carol and Pauline and Harvest Sale and Supper Committee: Pauline, Donna, Pat and Rachel

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned, followed by the reading of the Closing Creed together. Debbie thanked Joyce for being hostess.
